    A Fresh New Site Design

Welcome to the new Brunch on Chestnut! I’ve been working away all weekend to brainstorm how to make this site as easy to navigate as possible. (If you tried to visit yesterday and my site was undergoing maintenance, sorry about that… fixing a few last minute things was not my intention on a Monday!) I’m also one for new starts and keeping things fresh, so I hope you like the new layout! As you may have read recently, I launched a new travel guide up in the top right navigation where I plan to continue building a library of the most memorable must-see, must-do things. I’m also very excited to share that I’m starting a new series this week called “Local List”  – a snappy Q+A with friends around the world. It’s aimed to shed some light on some of my favorite people and their inspirations, and their top recommendations of things to do in their hometown. First one will be up on Friday, so come back and visit!

I’ve also decided that I’m cutting back on a couple social platforms – Bri from DESIGNLOVEFEST read my mind last night. I have to say I’m still bummed that I’m growing this love-hate relationship with social, but at the same time – after the past couple of months I’ve realized I’m not alone. Jacey from Damsel in Dior mentioned this a few weeks back and hit the nail on the head (also here in this video). The space is starting to feel a little too saturated, staged, and for some reason, I’m not finding the inspiration from it that I used to on a daily basis (for years and years now). Are you guys feeling this way too? I would love to know your thoughts. What is making you pull away from Instagram/what keeps you coming back for more? It’s not going to stop me from sharing because I love to do it, but I have felt a little deflated by changes made and the way-too-many platforms to keep up with! My focuses will stay on Instagram, Pinterest, Tumblr, and I am still deciding on which “story” to go with. What are your thoughts!

As far as cadence goes, I’m going to *try* and keep up with 5 posts a week, but you won’t see my site go a week without at least 3-4. It just depends if I’m traveling/taking a mini break away from the digital world, etc. I want this site to be a place where you come to escape for a few minutes and find inspiration, so if you ever have any questions, post requests, comments, or just want to say hello, I’m always here and thrilled to hear from you! I hope your week is off to a great start – looking forward to this fresh start. xx

PS. If anyone is interested in website design, email me! I have a handful that I’m not using and would be happy to help setting them up/designing anything (fonts, colors, etc) or I have a great person to refer you to if you’d like to have something created specifically for you.

    • Love the new design!!! So pretty! I feel the same with you about social media and instagram! I just feel totally discouraged about it and I miss when it used to be fun!!!

      • Thanks, love! I couldn’t agree more. It’s been such a weird and unfamiliar feeling the past couple of months, I used to enjoy posting so much and didn’t have to think about it before sharing. It really has become so calculated and seeing engagement go down isn’t very encouraging. Hopefully things get better with time, I think a lot of people are unhappy with how it’s going. Fingers crossed – and BTW, I love all your posts. 🙂 xx

    • Love it girl!

The new site looks SO GOOD! Absolutely love it! You know I’m right there with you with social media – I don’t even open Instagram anymore unless I’m going to post something. Such a bummer!

      • I know, I’m the same! Hoping things change, I feel like I’m in limbo waiting to revive that spark!

    • Malu Garcia

Love this post, and the new site design… Minimalist, yet fully functional!

I love the site! I have to say, my favorite is is “browse” option. I love the clean layout of the six different posts with the beautiful pictures. Great job all around, Ash!!

    • Christina Duran

Lovely! Everything you post is beautiful. Your site is one of my favorite places to go to for inspiration! Your work definitely does not go unnoticed, Ash!
Looking forward to more beautiful posts from you.
      xo,
      Christina

      • You don’t know how much this kind note means to me – thank you so much, Christina!! xx

I’ve been so down about instagram ever since the algorithm was introduced. I feel like I’m not seeing half the people I follow and often have to go to bloggers profiles to see what I’ve missed and I feel like it’s harder to grow my own following. But I’m still hooked on it because I love looking at other bloggers. Not sure how I feel about the stories. I love your new site design, so clean and fresh! Have you thought about doing a photography post? I would love to know what camera and lens are your go-to and any tips you have!

      • Oh my gosh, it’s the worst! I hope they catch on and realize it’s ruining the magic they once had over any other social platform. Keep your head up and just focus on what you love… things will all work itself out. 🙂

And thank you, I’m so glad you like it! I’m very finicky about my site, but this is simple and easy and fuss-free! I am planning to do a photography post next week. 🙂 It’s a lengthy one, so slowly working on it. xx

    • I totally understand where you are coming from social media wise. I’m pretty sure I’m over Twitter and posting on Google + at this point. It becomes more about sharing at some point and I’d rather focus on content and improving my photography skills and providing more value in my posts.

Absolutely love the new design! 🙂

      • Aw, completely agree with you! Thanks, lovely! xx

    • I have been feeling that while for a while now! I started my site back in 2012 when It was all about guest posting and shitty pictures haha. Now I feel myself comparing everything I do to other women who just started and got on the train at the right time and are blowing up! That comparison to can lead to jealousy and ugly thoughts about complete strangers which isnt good!! I had a real chat with myself a few weeks ago about why I have continued doing it if it brings me down so often…and came to conclusion that I started it to share what I love with people, if thats 5 people great if its 3000 cool.

      • Yes, I think that’s something I’ve had to ask myself more times than ever before this year. You just have to remember why you started and keep your eyes on the road! I’ve been blogging since high school and have had a couple blogs before this was created in 2012, so I am totally with you!

The “blog world” has evolved into something I’m sure we both never imagined! it can feel overwhelming at times. Keep keeping on, friend! ALSO, I love your site and your style is so cute. I also just noticed you shared my Carmel post, thank you so much for featuring me! xx

    • Rachel {Love This Life}

There are SO many platforms, it’s so overwhelming! I don’t use Twitter at all, I just don’t think it’s that useful for me. I love Instagram, but I literally wanted to cancel my account during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. It’s 100 degrees in Kentucky, I can’t realistically believe anyone is wearing fall outfits right now! I say you do you and those who like your content will follow.

Also, love the site redesign! So clean and fresh. And I’d totally be interested in website design. I’ll email you!

      • Totally agree! I think Twitter is slowly dying… the only good use for it is catching up with news. Don’t get me started on FB… you have to pay to play there, no thank you! I went through a terrible two month rut this summer (which is the longest I’ve ever felt uninspired, uncreative, and burnt out), and realized the same thing… do what you love to do do, keep your eyes on the road, and remember why you started. It’s easy to get caught up in the 33% decrease in engagement, the saturated space, but at the end of the days, there’s room for everyone and we’re all just doing what we love to do. Social will evolve – our blogs are our own, which is why I’ve decided to focus more so on here than anywhere else!

Looking forward to your email lady! xx

Hey Ashley! I hope your enjoying the weekend! I was wondering if you had any favorite places to order photo/art prints from! I’m looking to find some cute ones to purchase and get framed. Thanks 🙂

      • Hi love! Yes… I recommend Minted! It’s where 80% of our art/prints have come from! I’m actually creating a post this week rounding up all of my favorites, so be on the lookout!
