    Style Edit: Season Shift

It’s been awhile since I shared a ‘Style Edit‘ post with updates on my closet refresh/rebuilding – so prepare yourself for a thorough post allllll about clothes. In case you missed it, I called it quits on half my wardrobe this spring (4-5 XL trash bags full made their way to Goodwill). I realized my closet might be shrinking, so had to clear the clutter and dissect what I was working with and figure out what I “need” and need. With fall well on its way, I’ve been going back to the drawing boards a bit and wanted to get back into the habit of sharing my thought process/progress in this journey of cultivating a closet I love.

Last week my new Cuyana bag arrived in the mail and their garment cover inspired me to write this post “Fewer, better things”. It’s easy to get lost in the trends and stock up on pieces that may not take you from one season to the next, and that’s okay. Hello, fifty off the shoulder tops I had to have (no regrets, just an example!), I often find myself meandering off the path of necessity, but hey! I’ve been trying to be way more conscious of transitional pieces lately, especially this time of year – so thought I would pass on the good juju to you.

Beyond the basics and making sure your closet holds a bevvy of quality throw-ons: tees, long sleeves, tanks, denim – there are a few must-have items for fall that I consider to be year-long items (albeit I live in SF and an average 60º temp across the 365 board ;). So, here’s what’s on my radar as we slowly transition into cooler climes.

    Cropped / High-waisted Denim.

I couldn’t be happier that the trend landed in the 90’s. A new take on the mom jean that flatters and fit the ankle just perfectly, leaving endless opportunities for fabulous shoes to take the show. The trick is to also find the pair that works well with your tush. I look for pockets that are a little higher up. I’ve posted about the first pair on the left below a few times, I’ve been wearing them a ton.

    Suede.

Pouches, shoes, satchels, tops. I want everything suede this time of year, and my trick is to create a Pinterest board and accumulate a little wish list by category since accessories aren’t necessarily a “need” (depends on who you ask). It’s a great way to check back in over a couple of weeks (if it’s really good you may have to act faster before it sells out) and make the decision once you know you’re 100%. Suede is an always options – all fall and winter, and evenings come spring and summer.

    Jackets.

This category for some reason is a little tricky for me. I’m not quite sure how that happened because, after seven years in San Francisco, I should be more well-versed in layers than anything else. I think jackets are the least exciting to me currently, but I’m going to try and change that.

This is my starting point since all can be worn on these end of summer days
(and Indian Summer for us San Franciscans), more to come soon!
