What better way to kick off a new season than to chat about travel packing tips? Even if we don’t know where we’re going yet, I thought this may inspire you to get a jump on your next adventure. Packing is an art. I’ve learned this the hard way for many years now, as I am still fine-tuning my skills. But, there are a couple of things that work and I thought I would share them (plus a couple of my travel tips)! If you’re anything like me a year ago, this may help with your upcoming summer getaways…
I’ve learned to try and pack as lightly as possible. My goal is to create outfits and stick to a color theme so you can mix and match. Don’t overpack shoes, bring a couple variations based on what you plan to do, but keep it simple. I’ve also uncovered that carefully rolling silk tops and wrinkle-prone pieces is the way to go, rather than folding – this also helps to make the most of your suitcase space. And most importantly, leave some room in your suitcase for souvenirs!
CAN’T LEAVE HOME WITHOUT
My skincare regimen (and I usually bring a travel size conditioner just in case, sometimes I don’t love what the hotel has), my camera, and few books to read or my kindle.
BEST WAY TO TRAVEL
Walking! There’s no better way to live like a local and get a lay of the land then by foot. Same goes for accommodations, living like a local is always the way to go in my book – rent an Airbnb or stay in a neighborhood away from tourist attractions. Also, plan to an extent. I always like to get recommendations and research a bit, but leave our days open ended on what we feel like doing. It’s so much better than a tight schedule, you’re on vacation after all.
ENTERTAINMENT WHILE ON THE GO
Kindle or my iPad, make a couple new playlists for plane or car rides, always bring a few books like I mentioned before (especially if it’s a beach trip), and playing cards. Podcasts! I’m currently loving ‘Keeping it 1600’ and ‘The Lively Show‘.
