I’ve been working on our apartment a lot lately, and for the first time in my life my space feels like a real home. Our home. Things are naturally filling in and evoking a feeling of comfort and happiness. This past weekend when we were in Arizona visiting Matt’s family for Thanksgiving, interior design got brought up and I was asked where my passion started. I love telling this story, and thinking back to when I was little and reliving hours spent on creating a unique space that brought joy to my life.
When I was little I remember going over to one of my good friend’s houses all the time whose mother was an interior designer. I think that’s where my admiration began. Taking in how she designed her home was the first moment I remember where I really loved how interior design made me feel. It was almost magical to me how she brought her home to life. I remember feeling inspired and wanting to update my room and would move things around until I found them to be perfect.
Looking back on years and years of my favorite hobby (almost 2 decades now), my love for design has never dwindled, and I like to think my eye gets better with time. It’s been a rewarding few months nesting into our first home together, and I can’t wait to share more projects / a full home tour very very soon. I’ve learned that interior design is a wonderful journey that never ends, and it’s nice to build the foundation first and fill in with furniture, then slowly collect pieces of personality and flare.
We are adding a few ledge shelves to our living room and bedroom that I already know I’m going to have a hay-day styling. I am all about the stacked/layered look with frames, so will post soon once we have those up. What are your favorite elements when designing a space. I swear even the little things like candles and throws make a huge difference, don’t you think? I hope you’re enjoying your week – xx
