Far Niente Tasting Room

4 March

This week I took a trip up to Napa with my friend Kristie for a meeting with a wine distributor. I will always say ‘yes’ to make my way up to wine country, it’s my happy place. One of my best friends belong to Far Niente Wine Club and after hearing such lovely things, I decided to book a tasting while I was up there – can’t leave without a few sips of wine. It was such a gorgeous property, rich with history, and a beautiful name (it came from the Italian phrase “Dolce Far Niente”, which means “sweet to do nothing’. It got me into a weekend mindset– that’s for sure. All of the wine was delicious, even stepping outside my box – the more crisp Chardonnay, and their well-known dessert wine, Dulce. I even had a second tasting of that one. So enjoyable.

We enjoyed the tasting (and bought a bottle of the 2011 Cab), and sat outside to take in the beautiful view of the vineyards that sit alongside a lusciously green yard, a few fountains surrounding, and took in the last bit of sunshine before the clouds began to hit Napa as well.

We headed home to a fog-filled city – but felt thankful to have enjoyed such a pretty day! This weekend Matt and I had plans to go to Pebble Beach for my birthday (on Monday 3/7), but they sadly fell through. Looking back on the sunny times last year compared to this rain is a little bit of a bummer, but it’s always one extreme or the other for me each year, so I can’t say I’m surprised. Damn you, Karl the Fog.

I think I will have to open our Far Niente bottle a little early to celebrate and make up for the gloom. I hope you have a wonderful weekend! xx
