A Low Key Galentine’s

10 February

Cheese and wine in the name of love…what’s better? Since Valentine’s Day is coming up quickly, I thought it would be fun to host a Galentine’s night with a few close friends to catch up over one of my go-to favorite wine labels, Belle Ambiance, and deck out a cheese plate like we never have before (which was the best idea ever).

When we were planning the evening, we decided we wanted to spend it simply. We all brought a couple of things to add to the decadent assortment. Put a bunch of girls in one place with cheese and wine, and you have yourself a party. That’s what Galentines is all about, right? Doing something you all enjoy with the girlfriends you love most.

(Clearly, we’re all very ready for spring. We were on a roll with pretending until the rain began…)

I’m pretty simple when it comes to hosting/creating a tablescape, I would say. Especially when the food and wine look this pretty! We laid a blanket over a girlfriend table in her backyard, bundled up (thank goodness for heat lamps, too), and played catch up on life.

We opened Belle Ambiance’s Pinot Grigio and the night began to unfold from there. I’m usually not a white wine fan (I use to be!), but I love this. It’s so light and crisp… a very good table wine for everyone to enjoy (and under $10, might I add AND a screw-off for those upcoming backyard BBQ’s and picnics). Subtle and refreshing to accompany the rest of the spread… couldn’t recommend it more, especially the crisp white wine fans!

We eventually opened the Cabernet Sauvignon. No cheese plate is complete without red! You guys. This has become one of my absolute favorite affordable wines-to-share (equally obsessed with their Dark Red Blend). I feel so lucky to be able to work with a label I love and share their delicious selection with you. Have you tried them yet? Go pick up a bottle from the market next time you’re there and let me know thoughts. I hope you have a wonderful Valentine’s Day!

Cheese plate keys to success:

2-3 cheese
1-2 meat options
2-3 fruits
fig jam
peanut butter
small baguette

wine tasting notes if you’re interested:

Pinot Grigio | “Delicate floral aromas of lemon blossom, honeysuckle, and jasmine are accented by notes of white peach and juicy pineapple that frame core flavors of sweet honeydew melon, white nectarine, and tart lemon. This medium-bodied wine is bright and crisp with a tangy, lingering finish.”

Cabernet Sauvignon | “Take in tantalizing aromas of black cherries and blackberries along with hints of violet and freshly-cracked peppercorn before plunging into flavors of dense black fruit compote and black currant, beautifully highlighted with a hint of earth and spice. This medium-bodied wine is jammy and juicy with plush, velvety tannins.”
