Happy Sunday! I’m so excited to share a new Local List with you, highlighting the founder of one of my favorite shops in San Francisco. Meet Christina, the brilliant mind behind St. Frank Textiles, and some of her favorite spots in the city and why she loves calling SF home.
*Also, in the spirit of the holiday season, we’re hosting a giveaway. Details at the bottom of this post!
Name Christina Bryant
Current occupation Founder + CEO of St. Frank
What does a typical day look like for you?
There is no typical day at a small startup. Sometimes I’m in HQ designing products and working with the marketing and operations teams. Some days I’m in stores rearranging furniture and store layout. Often I’m on the road – whether meeting with investors, scouting new store locations, or visiting artisan partners. The only common thread in my days is that they are fairly devoted to work, hopefully having at least one fun meal with friends and colleagues, and 8 hours of sleep. Bonus points if I squeeze in a work out outside and/or reading.
Lightbulb moment that navigated you to where you are now.
St. Frank began with an Indian textile I bought abroad and later framed. It became a conversation piece in my home. I realized that, except for items I picked up on my travels like this framed textile, it was difficult for me to find beautiful pieces that spoke to my values as a ‘global citizen.’ I wanted my home to tell the story of who I am. I guess the lightbulb moment for me was just thinking that there are a lot of other people out there who shared my values and no luxury home brand was meeting their needs. So, I started St. Frank to do that – offer a new lifestyle brand build for people who value traveling around the world off the beaten path, who want authentic products with stories, and who demand ethical sourcing.
Words to live by…
Today is the best day ever.
A perfect weekend looks something like this…
If I’m staying in the city, I’d like to be surfing and/or hiking, taking a trip to the farmers market (if you live in CA, you have to take advantage of the amazing produce), reading in bed, hosting friends for a dinner party. Otherwise, I’m always happy to spend the weekend in St. Helena.
Soundtrack to Saturday.
I’m from the midwest and still listen to country music! I love it all – from Willie Nelson to Eric Church.
Where are the best places to shop?
I live on Fillmore, so I often shop there. My spots are Heidi Says for clothing, Space NK for beauty, and Mudpie for baby gifts. Sacramento Street is the don’t miss for home goods – our flagship (shameless plug!), Hudson Grace, March, Sue Fisher King, and so many other great small boutiques.
Top 3 favorite dinner spots.
SPQR for pasta in my neighborhood, Kokkari for Greek (I initially got hooked on their sister restaurant Evvia in Palo Alto when I was in business school), and Zuni Cafe for a classic SF experience in a fun space. Pizza in the garden at Starbelly is fun, too.
Top 3 favorite lunch spots.
When I’m at the SF store, I always eat at As Quoted. If it’s the weekend post hiking with friends, I’ll stop at Marin Country Mart for Rustic Bakery. If I’m near home, I frequent Jane on Fillmore. Those are my go-tos.
Best spot for cocktails with friends.
The bar at Spruce (after a stop by our store!).
Wine bar you can’t miss.
Biondivino off Polk is a great Italian wine shop owned by a friend and they have tastings and events that are worth attending. Their staff is really knowledgeable and helpful.
Favorite workout / must try for out of towers.
Surf at Pacifica or Bolinas – you can rent a board and wetsuit and even get a lesson if you want.
Noteworthy coffee shop.
Should I say Saint Frank on Polk that shares our name? We’re not related.
My apartment – come over! I have the tiniest pad, but I can’t imagine moving because of the view (and the scary real estate prices).
Favorite thing about where you live.
I love living in a place that values and produces so much innovation. And also in a place that offers big city culture with easy access to nature.
If you haven’t visited St. Frank online or stepped into their store, be sure to check them out! I want everything…
