Chelsea, NY City Guide with Kristen Nichols

Happy Friday! I’m excited to share another Local List series with my lovely friend, Kristen! Kristen and I met a year ago after being friends on Instagram and have since spent time on both sides of the country when we’re in each other’s neighborhood. It’s been such a treat to get to know her, watch her launch her beautiful blog this summer, and catch up on a regular basis. Her photography, dreamy job, and living vicariously through her life in New York will have you adoring her content and overall awesomeness as well. I’m excited to introduce you and her favorite local spots in NYC!

    Name: Kristen Nichols
    Age: 30
Current occupation/job: Contributor and Assistant to the Editor-in-Chief at Allure / Editor of Bungalow 1

What does a typical day look like for you?
I start most days with an early-morning workout followed by an almond latte to get me moving. After I get to the office, I spend time working with Allure’s Editor-in-Chief, Michelle Lee. I’m a contributor for Allure and work on in-book and digital stories so spend the afternoon writing and doing interviews. I also cover the lingerie and swimwear markets for the fashion team so end my days with appointments to meet with PR teams to look at new collections. After office hours are spent working on Bungalow 1, whether it’s writing new content, fielding emails, posting to my social channels, or squeezing in photo shoots.

Lightbulb moment that navigated you to where you are now.
When I spent a summer living in Paris, I was captivated by the fashion and art everywhere in the city. You couldn’t escape it! My time there made me realize I needed to work in a role where I could be surrounded by all of the things that inspire me. There will always be a piece of Paris in my heart pushing that creative impulse.

    Words to live by…
    La vie est belle.

    Where do you live?
    Chelsea in NYC

A perfect weekend looks something like this…
I’m a big explorer so love spending my weekends visiting new places. Whether it’s a museum or restaurant in NYC, a nearby day trip, or a weekend getaway, I’m always happiest discovering something new – and taking photos along the way.

    Soundtrack to Saturday.
I love listening to new artists, but grew up with the old classics so those are always on repeat. Give me The Rolling Stones, Elvis, Frank Sinatra, and Nat King Cole, mixed in with a little Amy Winehouse, and I’m a happy girl.

Where are the best places to shop?
    • The Apartment by The Line. A concept store designed like an apartment where you can shop everything from the throw pillows and light fixtures to the well-stocked closet and beauty counter. They have beautiful pieces (hand-picked by the always chic Vanessa Traina) from designers like Altuzarra and Brock.
    • Reformation for breezy dresses. I live in them all summer long.
    • I wear a lot of Isabel Marant and love stopping in their Soho store. It’s like a mini trip to the Marais in Paris.
    • Barneys for the ultimate window shopping.

    Top 3 favorite dinner spots.
    Upland for farm-fresh, California-inspired dishes.
Seamore’s for curry mussels and freshly caught seafood.
Bar Pitti to indulge in the pappardelle and vino.

    Top 3 favorite lunch spots.
Sant Ambroeus in Soho for sidewalk omelets and rosé.
Jack’s Wife Freda for Middle Eastern-inspired brunch.
Juice Press for quick to-go smoothies and organic salads – I like to eat healthy as much as I can.

Best spot for cocktails with friends.
Bemelmans Bar at The Carlyle after a trip to The Met. It’s very classic, old-world New York and I always feel like I’ve stepped back in time to a bygone era. And the walls are decorated with murals by the artist who illustrated the Madeline books.

    Wine bar you can’t miss.
The roof at my apartment! I love picking up bottles of Sancerre to sip with my sister and friends while looking out over the city skyline.

Favorite workout / must try for out of towners.
I book classes at Body by Simone. I actually started going to BBS when I lived in West Hollywood and kept up sessions at their NYC studio when I moved here. I always walk out feeling re-energized.

    Noteworthy coffee shop.
The High Line Hotel is my neighborhood spot for iced almond lattes.

    Prettiest view.
Central Park is magical during every season – from blooming cherry blossom trees in the spring to horse drawn carriages during winter snowstorms.

Favorite thing about where you live.
There is always something new. Whether it’s a new restaurant, Broadway show, film festival, or even the changing seasons, NYC is a city that’s constantly changing and ushering in the new.
