Vancouver City Guide with Sophie Collins

12 August

I’m excited to share with you the launch of Live Like a Local (located under the travel category in my “browse” dropdown), a new monthly segment highlighting awesome people and places. Not only will it introduce you to noteworthy hotspots in cities all over the world, you’ll also be introduced to some of my dear friends and inspirations. The first person I thought to highlight is my ball-of-sunshine friend, Sophie Collins. We met via Instagram a couple years back and have since bonded over delicious brunches when she (frequently) visits SF, wine dates, and weekly catch-ups. Her blog Sip Savour Share catalogs her passion for cooking, wine, traveling, and celebrating the little things on a daily basis. Her chic and laidback style, stunning home and luscious garden, and drool-worthy food and recipe posts are always so inspiring. I’m excited to give you a glance at some of her favorite things about her lifestyle in Vancouver.

Name: Sophie Collins
Age: 26
Current occupation/job:
I work in tech, and run my blog, Sip Savour Share in my spare time.

What does a typical day look like for you?
My day starts with a big mug of coffee in bed (my favourite is from local coffee shop Milano). I actually will wake up 30 minutes early just to have this extra time. From there, I get up and get ready for the day. Since I work in tech, my work look is pretty casual: anything from ripped jeans and my favourite sneakers to a cute sundress and wedges. I’m in the office by 8:30 latest and my day consists of client calls, emails, an easy, healthy lunch at my desk, and trying to leave at a reasonable time. From there, I head to a workout class (this month it’s Kondi Studio because I’m preparing for my wedding next month!) After I get my butt kicked (actually though) I head home and cook a healthy dinner, relax on the couch and crawl into bed early.

Lightbulb moment that navigated you to where you are now.
I’ve been at my current company for 3 years but it isn’t until I moved into sales that I realized my passion for working with clients, solving problems, and essentially running “my own business.” Also, in my later 20s I’ve become much more patient and allowing things to fall in their place. Good things take time!

Words to live by…
Always find a reason to celebrate

A perfect weekend looks something like this…
Friday night: cooking an indulgent dinner in with a great bottle of California Cab (Ashley turned me onto Cannonball and I haven’t looked back!), candles lit, and Sam Cooke on our Bose speakers.

Saturday starts with coffee in bed, a workout class, my favourite smoothie (Body Energy Club’s Junior Mint) and errands.

Sunday is lazzzzyyy for as long as possible. Lately, it’s consisted of: puttering around the house, writing wedding thank you cards, and watching my fiance tend to our veggie garden. Sunday always ends with a family dinner, whether at our place or our parents.

Soundtrack to Saturday.

Where are the best places to shop?
Because we’ve been renovating for the last couple of years, I’m drawn more to furniture shopping than clothing at the moment (I buy most of my clothes online at Shopbop or Revolve). South Granville has the best of everything: Restoration Hardware, Williams-Sonoma, West Elm and Pottery Barn. I always make time for a glass of rosé at Stable House when I’m shopped out for the day.

Top 3 favorite dinner spots.
1) Savio Volpe
2) Vij’s
3) West

Top 3 favorite lunch spots.
1) Heirloom Vegetarian
2) Cactus Club – their salads are amazing
3) La Taqueria for the best tacos in the city…quick, cheap and easy!
4) My kitchen – I love cooking healthy, easy meals!

Best cocktails with friends.
1) The lobby bar at the Fairmont Pacific Rim – there is always live jazz
2) Margaritas at Tacofino in Gastown
3) The Parlour in Yaletown for a little more rowdy of a night 🙂
